One of the finest retirement homes in the country: a tranquil, spacious home within beautiful grounds, where care is delivered with warmth by our trained, friendly team.
Menwinnion Country House is one of the finest retirement homes in the country. Our Care Team is dedicated to providing the highest quality of life for our cherished ladies and gentlemen.
Menwinnion provides a tranquil, relaxing and spacious environment within beautiful grounds, with the benefits of care assistance as needed from our trained, friendly staff.
Our philosophy is to provide care based around each person's needs, and to promote their personal choices and preferences. Whatever the need, care is delivered with patience, kindness, discretion and understanding.
We guarantee to surpass your expectations of what you would expect from a care home.
Menwinnion has provided high quality residential care since 1983, standing in its own extensive grounds on the western side of the historic Lamorna Valley, with magnificent views over the surrounding countryside and a walk down to the sea.

The house has 40 bedrooms, mostly ensuite and luxury suites. More than half open through patio doors onto level, step-free paved garden and raised flowerbeds. Each room is furnished to a very high standard, and we warmly encourage residents to bring their own furniture and touches to make it their own.
Three main lounges, plus quiet alcoves and conservatory areas throughout the home, give every resident the choice of company or calm. Our gardens are safe for walking, with secluded corners to sit, and wireless emergency pendants work throughout the grounds, so help is always close by.
From a single night's respite to full-time residential care, delivered alongside wonderful food and a genuinely full social calendar.

Come and sample our care and warmth. Try our activity programmes, in-house personal care and daily visits from the medical team. Stays can be for one night, a week, or longer.

Person-centred residential care, delivered with patience, kindness and discretion by our qualified and experienced team, tailored to each resident's changing needs.

Freshly prepared, home-cooked meals served in elegant surroundings, with menus built around our residents' tastes, appetites and dietary needs.

A comprehensive activity and entertainment programme, because we never forget that life should be fun. Clubs, outings and daily company, always.
It matters to us that residents feel "at home", rather than "living in a home". We promote individual choice in virtually every aspect of the day.
Our dining rooms run like a fine restaurant, with waiter and waitress service, a daily three-course lunch and plenty of choice. Breakfast in bed is always available, the choice is yours.
A daily shop, a weekly visiting hairdresser, and chiropodist, optician, dentist and clergy of all denominations on request. We also run our own transport for local trips and medical appointments.
There are normally no fixed visiting hours. Families can join activities, outings or lunch, and our Clematis Room can be booked for private occasions and club nights. Ample parking on site.
Your pet is welcome to move in with you. Subject to availability, we have rooms with French doors opening straight onto the garden, ideal for a companion.
Bring your house and garden plants with you, and join our Gardening Club to help with watering, propagating and flower arranging. We have borders and a greenhouse ready.
All laundry is done in-house with professional equipment, and we operate a no-smoking policy throughout, with a dedicated facility at the rear for residents and visitors.
Menwinnion Country House has recently celebrated its own 100th birthday. It was built by the famous local artist Frank Heath as a present for his wife, Jessica, in 1912, and it has been a place of beauty and warmth ever since.
Frank Heath, associated with both the Newlyn and Lamorna Schools of artists, built the house as a present for his wife Jessica. She was a talented artist in her own right, and often painted their children on the rocks by Lamorna Cove. This bohemian, pre-war world was later immortalised in the 2013 film "Summer in February".
After more than twenty years, the family sold the house to a local solicitor, who passed it to his brother: the Cornish author and soldier "Elephant Bill" Williams, OBE. Elephants are said to have roamed the grounds in the 1950s, with their bones buried in the gardens to this day.
Menwinnion became a Country Club Hotel, before being converted into a luxury retirement home, carrying its stylish, spacious character into a new chapter of hospitality and care.
Menwinnion Care Ltd has modernised and expanded the house, transforming it into "a care home fit for the 21st century", whilst retaining the ambiance and stylish lifestyle of a bygone era.
Most importantly, at Menwinnion Country House, we never forget that life should be fun.
